Mark Lewis moved to Arizona in 1987 and was originally from Michigan. He attended Saguaro High School in Scottsdale and undergraduate school in Tucson at the University of Arizona. There he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology. Although Dr. Lewis was accepted at the U of A School of Medicine, he and his wife had to leave the "dry heat" and move to Louisiana so they could obtain their professional degrees at the same time. Dr. Lewis earned his Doctorate of Medicine at Louisiana State University in New Orleans in May of 2001.
He returned to Arizona for his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. After earning "Resident of the Year" twice, he was selected as a Chief Resident. As a Chief Resident, he had a key role in the training of interns and residents. He also played a lead role in implementing and organizing an on-line training program for the residency.
After his Chief Resident year, Dr. Lewis was selected as one of the first Academic Hospitalists at St. Joseph's Hospital. This further enhanced his experience in the care of patients and understanding of today's medical system and some of the benefits and challenges associated with "managed" healthcare.
This has greatly influenced Dr. Lewis's commitment to the continuity of care and enjoyment of long term relationships with patients and their families as he has transitioned into the outpatient primary care setting. As healthcare has advanced and become very specialized over the past 20 years, Dr. Lewis sees an even greater need for primary care physicians to treat patients and coordinate their health care.
Mark is married to Daschelle Roice-Lewis a veterinarian in North Phoenix. He enjoys working with computers, photo taking, video editing and spending time with his wife and children.
