Dr. Nikodemas McNulty, ND
Licensed Naturopathic Medical Doctor and Founder Supportive Cancer Care, Sports Medicine, & IV Therapy Specialist
|
As a young man, Dr. Nikodemas McNulty knew that medicine would be in his future; what he didn't realize was that his passion for helping people would lead him to study Naturopathic Medicine. At the University of South Florida, where he received his B.S. in Medical Science, he envisioned a career as a surgeon.
However, while working in prostate and bladder cancer research, he observed not only the possibilities of modern cancer treatment but its limitations as well. It was these limitations that caused him to reconsider his direction. At his parent's suggestion, he explored natural medicine a care system that strives to find the root cause of disease by understanding the body, mind, and spirit of the person.
Naturopathic medicine, according to Dr. McNulty, can be powerful as adjunctive or supportive care to conventional medicine. In fact, he regularly receives referrals from medical doctors at Scripps as well as UCSD and provides supportive treatment to many patients undergoing cancer therapies. With his expertise in customized IV treatments, Dr. McNulty provides pain and symptom management for cancer patients at all stages. He works with patients diagnosed with severe neurological disorders – Parkinson's Alzheimer's, dementia – to slow its progression and provide relief. His patients also include people struggling with addictions who need help with detox and the alleviation of withdrawal response symptoms.
Nature & Science Medicine, as the name suggests, combines a rigorous adherence to scientific principles of medicine with an understanding and practice of whole-body evaluation. In addition to adjunctive oncology care and nutritional IV therapy, his practice also offers nutrition and lifestyle counseling, and chelation therapy.
Though his childhood was spent in Ohio and Florida, Dr. McNulty chose San Diego as his home following medical school and residency at Bastyr University. Bastyr University, with campuses in Seattle and San Diego, is the world's leading academic center for natural health arts and sciences. It trains doctors to use both conventional diagnostic testing and natural treatments. Besides running his daily practice, Dr. McNulty teaches advanced IV Therapy classes, Phlebotomy lab, and supervises student care shifts at his Alma Mater.
In the long term, Dr. McNulty envisions establishing a local health and wellness retreat facility, as well as founding a nonprofit aimed at educating people about healthy living in harmony with the principles of naturopathic medicine. When he isn't working, Dr. McNulty can be found in the great outdoors, especially in the local deserts and mountains, and occasionally in the forests of Washington.
